Summer is here!

David Glover June 19, 2019

What's better than sunny days on the beach, warm twilight evenings and icy cold drinks with friends? Perfect if you ask me, however the summer heat brings a few challenges to your hair. It can damage your colour, give you an oily scalp, and make your hair a lot dryer and frizzier. Don't be nervous - we are here to help. I am going to share 4 simple summer hair tips that will help save your mane this season and keep you looking swimsuit-ready!

1. Reduce heat

If you are going to spend a long day in the sun, cover your head with a hat to protect both your hair AND your skin. Avoid heat styling as much as possible and allow it to air-dry more often. Our Serum Infusions moisturize your hair and work perfectly as styling products. For example, add our Hydrating Infusion Serum after washing your hair and leave it in to dry naturally for a fabulously natural summer beach style.

2. Fight the frizz

Do you feel that your hair grows in size on a humid day? Frizzy hair is a challenge, especially in the summer months, partially due to the excessive moisture in the air. Our Smoothing Infusion Serum is an anti-frizz saver that gives your hair lasting softness and shine. Apply it to your freshly towel-dried hair and comb it though before styling for easy manageability and frizz control.

3. Wash less

Frequent washing strips your scalp from its natural oils and stimulates additional production of oil. This becomes a vicious cycle and the solution is to wash your hair less and maintain your style for longer. To achieve this, you will want your scalp to feel clean during your in-between days. I recommend using our Essential Cleanse Shampoo in combination with our Prime Condition Rinse. Both of these are formulated without heavy oils or silicone so that your scalp (and hair) stay cleaner longer, giving you extra days between shampoos. If you cannot reduce your shampoo time to twice a week, I advise at least getting it down to every second day to eventually slow down oil production on your scalp.

4. Water for your body and your hair

Water is a must! Not only is it crucial for your body, but also your hair. The worst thing you can do is sit in the sun with salt water (or pool water) still in your hair. In addition to drinking more than 2 liters of water per day, make sure to bring a reusable bottle to the beach so you can rinse your hair through with fresh water after swimming. Salt water sucks moisture out of your hair and makes it brittle while chlorinated water bleaches it and ruins your beautiful color work. Apply our Prime Condition Rinse as a leave in, tie your hair in a ponytail and wear that recommended hat. (See tip #1)

Wishing you a very lovely summer and healthy beautiful hair!
